Rivergate 4th and 5th

Dear Parents,
Wow!  What a great first week we’ve had!  We have spent time on getting acquainted, going over procedures and processes, studying place value in math, writing about what we did during summer vacation, and writing the first draft of a thank you letters to the Maranatha workers who are volunteering their time to work on the new school rooms.  We’ve said two memory verses, taken our first spelling test, learned some sign language, started to memorize The Declaration of Independence and The Preamble to the U.S. Constitution, learned our state song in music, done our first art project, and worked on throwing a ball correctly in P.E.  This isn’t all we’ve done, but at least it gives you an idea of the things we are doing!
As you know, Monday is Labor Day, so we get an extra day to relax and sleep in!  Please remind your student that Reading Log #2 is due on Tuesday.  They need to record their time on the reading log and have you sign it.  The 4th graders are to read 100 minutes each week, and the 5th graders are to read 120 minutes each week.  Some of this time should be spent on reading out loud to you.
Coming up:  We have “Picture Day” on Wednesday and “Back to School Night” on Thursday.  Please make sure that you are here on “Back to School Night” because I will have important information to share with you about our schoolwork and overnight field trip to Pioneer Farm.
You have awesome kids, so I can’t wait to get better acquainted with you!  See you Thursday evening!
